St Mary's Church, Holy Island

  • Description

"Seen from the ruins of Lindisfarne Priory, St Mary's Church dates mainly from the 13th century (although some of the masonry is older). It still functions, as it always has done, as the parish church for the island and has long outlived the adjacent priory (which would once have dominated it) - the priory having been suppressed in 1537."
