Former Tramway to Frederick Shaft

  • Description

"This was the main shaft for the mine. It is 700ft (213m) deep. The shaft was driven through boulder clay (laid down in the last Ice Age) and whetstone before reaching the whinn sill where the lead and witherite ore bodies were to be found." Photo by Matthew Hatton, 2016.
