Butter Stone

  • Description

"Cotherstone, Butter Stone This natural stone may have been used in the medieval(1066 to 1540)period during times of illness or plague. Food and money would have been left here for the village, so those bringing the food did not come into contact with the infected villagers." Photo by Hugh Mortimer, 2008.
