    "Newton Cap viaduct was built across the River Wear for the Bishop Auckland branch of the York, Newcastle & Berwick Railway. The railway closed in 1968 but since 21st July 1995 the viaduct has carried the A689 across the river." Photo by Tim Glover, 2008.
