Description
"The Central [[2242551]] or 'Coffin' as it's known locally (although it looks a lot less narrow in the drawing here) http://isee.gateshead.gov.uk/detail.php?t=objects&type=all&f=&s=central&record=10 was designed in 1854 by local architect M Thompson and built in 1856. It became a hotel around 1890. The Central sits on its own island site between Hills Street (left) and Half Moon Lane (right) and has five front elevations. It was built for Alderman Potts, a wine merchant, and became a hotel around 1890.
