THE STEPHENSON MEMORIAL BY JOHN G LOUGH
-
Description
Close to Newcastle's Railway Station George Stephenson's statue is fenced-off as the city's Central Gateway project progresses. Its an interesting bit of Victorian sculpture (1862), the base is adorned with four figures representing different aspects of the great engineer/inventors achievements. A much better image - free of clutter together with a full history can be seen on the excellent- The Victorian Web at: http://www.victorianweb.org/sculpture/lough/3.html" >www.victorianweb.org/sculpture/lough/3.html -
