Stacks of Timber Ablaze
-
Description
This dramatic photograph shows piles of smouldering timber surrounded by flames during the Great Timber Yard Fire in Hartlepool, 1922. At times, the inferno, reputed to be so bright that it turned night into day, was so intense that the heat it created caused the timber sleepers and pit props to burst into flames.
