Description
Photgraph of a young girl searching through rubble outside a house damaged in the Great Timber Yard Fire in Hartlepool, 1922. Although no one perished during the blze, many familes still lost everything, despite the best efforts of firemen, who held off the spread of the blaze long enough for precious furnitire and belongings to be evacuated. Here, the writing on the wall of the building, saying ''keep out'' shows that, despite this, people were still trying to protect whatever possessions may have remained.
