"Market cross. 1871. Pinkish sandstone steps; pecked Frosterley limestone cross. 4 older square steps, with iron clamps on top step; tall tapered ring- headed cross on chamfered base. Top step inscribed MARKET GRANTED 1669 CROSS ERECTED 1871."
