Wylam

  • Description

"The two-storey, Tudor-style Station-master's house and the small extension on the left (booking office) are the oldest parts of the station and date from its opening in 1835. The single-storey waiting rooms were added a few years later. The station buildings were originally on the up line, towards Newcastle, as the Newcastle & Carlisle Railway was one of few railways which ran on the right. In 1864, as part of the North East Railway, the line was converted to run on the left, and the station buildings now serve destinations towards Carlisle. Wylam Railway Station is a Grade II Listed Building." Photo by Andrew Curtis, 2011, and licensed for reuse under a Creative Commons Licence.
