Hepburn Bastle
-
Description
'Hepburn (or Hebburn) Bastle was built in the early 16th century as a fortified tower house. This type of building is quite common in the border counties as cross border raids were a frequent hazard of life in the area until the 18th century. The name bastle is from the french "bastille".'
