St Aidan's Church is the resting place of Northumbria's most famous daughter and national Heroine, http://www.flickr.com/photos/kevl/239283168/in/photostream/">Grace Darling. The church in Bamburgh was founded by St Aidan who came from Iona in 635. The original church was made of wood with a thatched roof. It is reported that Aidan died leaning against a beam outside the church in 651 AD.
