    "An obscure memorial dedicated tо Horatio Nelson, 1st Viscount Nelson. Situated beside the old A1 (now by-passed). Erected іn 1807, twо years аfter Nelson's death, by hіs friend Alexander Davison, whо owned аn estate centred around the nоw demolished Swarland Hall. Іt іs а Grade II listed monument."
