Bamburgh Castle

  • Description

"Situated on a dolerite outcrop overlooking the North Sea, there has been a castle here since at least the 6th Century. The core of the present building dates from Norman times, but it was heavily restored during the 18th and 19th Centuries, with the work completed by the industrialist William Armstrong who bought it in 1894. Grade I listed " Photo by Ian Capper, 2011, and licensed for reuse under a Creative Commons Licence.
