Collingwood House, Collingwood Street, Newcastle
-
Description
"Built as the Bank of Chicago in 1971-74 to the designs of Mauchlen, Weightman & Elphick. "Might the full-height oriels be homage to the bank's Chicago skyscraper?" muses Pevsner. The mansard roof is unfortunate. Most of the retail space was a branch of Subway, the office space above seemingly available to let."
