The Buckhaven & Methil Miners Band 6

  • Description

This year The New Thornley Banner Group in County Durham contracted The Buckhaven & Methil Miners Band to take the new Thornley Lodge Banner to this years Durham Miners Gala, the 125th on Saturday 11th July 2009. While the ex-Wellesley Colliery Band from Fife in Scotland were in North East England, I arranged for them to play 2 concerts on the day after the Gala. One concert was in the victorian bandstand in Beamish Museum during the afternoon, but before that they entertained the locals in Tanfield Lea Working Mens Club, playing alongside the 1951 vintage Tanfield Lea NUM Lodge Banner, by kind permission of The Tanfield Lea Partnership. Here the conductor invites members of the audience to try and conduct the band
