Another one bites the dust

  • Description

It was strange walking into a Woolworth store for probably the last time in my life. People cradled reduced-price goods in their arms, and choosing non-essential items thanks to their cut prices - a scene not too dissimilar to panic-buying or looting. Isles were bare and empty almost everywhere you looked; apart from a specials stand of Terry's Chocolate Orange which was full. Through my childhood and teenage years I had visited Woolworths for many purposes - music, greetings cards, snacks and drinks, maybe the odd bit of tech. It even featured in a primary school piece of drawing/colouring work - I remember shortening the shop title to Woolies as that's all that would fit in.
