Preventing dementia - Newcastle University

Description
International Research Impact: http://bit.ly/impact-yt Researchers at Newcastle University, working with Cambridge and Nottingham, suggest that prevention rather than cure is the solution to the dementia time bomb facing our rapidly ageing population. Professor Louise Robinson, Director of Newcastle University’s Institute for Ageing and a GP in the city for 20 years, explains how her research has helped inform health strategies that have helped lead to a significant reduction in rates of dementia over the past 20 years. She is filmed at one of the specialist CRESTA clinics (Clinics for Research and Service in Themed Assessment), which are based at the University’s Campus for Ageing and Vitality and are led and managed by Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The clinics are designed to better serve the needs of an increasingly aged patient population, and are geared at recruitment of such patients for participation in early phase trials and research into conditions including dementia.
