Archaeological excavation of Mill Race at Dukesfield Smelt Mill

  • Description

"The mill race carried water from a dam across Devil's Water some distance upstream. It was used to power water-wheels at Dukesfield Smelt Mill. The arched culvert carried waste water below the track to join the Hall Burn close to the Smelt Mill chimney." Photo by Andrew Curtis, 2012, and licensed for reuse under a Creative Commons Licence.
