    "Younger son of John Blackett (1683-1750) and Patience, daughter of Henry Wise. Grandson of Sir Edward Blackett, 2nd Baronet. He was born in Newcastle on 1 January 1728 or 1729 (sources vary as to the year) and according to the noted autobiographer Rev. Dr. Alexander Carlyle was named after Erasmus Lewis, a close friend of Blackett’s father and secretary to Lord Oxford. After serving an apprenticeship in Liverpool...."
