Blaydon Station

  • Description

"View NW, towards Hexham and Carlisle; ex-NER Newcastle - Carlisle main line. The line (via Scotswood) from Newcastle (Central) is coming in from the right behind the signalbox; the lines in the foreground are the Goods lines from Gateshead via Dunston, which were upgraded from 4/10/82 to form the main line from Newcastle, the line over Scotswood Bridge having been closed. Blaydon station is very different now, having been closed on 3/9/66 while through trains were run via North Wylam instead of Wylam until 11/3/68; it was then rebuilt due to vandalism!".
