GILLIAN ALLNUTT AT THE LIT & PHIL

  • Description

I enjoyed an evening of poetry at Newcastle-upon-Tyne's superb Lit & Phil Library where Gillian Allnutt launched a chapbook of new poems called: icumen (all lower case), published under a new imprint - Literal Fish, (Proprietor Lisa Matthews). Compared with Gillian's previous collection: Indwelling, from Bloodaxe, icumen is a more personal set of poems though not necessarily less demanding: - wake for my father myself (italicised) solitude laid down as bedrock, being - sweet chariot, sweet clarinet, of bone where late the sweet bird sang - Gillian Allnutt
