Get Carter car park, Gateshead

  • Description

Scheduled for demolition, and not a moment too soon in my opinion. It's certainly been a landmark for quite a while, especially since the '60s when it 'starred' in Get Carter, but as a building it's worse than useless. It's been empty and unused for years [Edit: apparently the bottom few floors are still used as a car park] There should be a competition to see who gets to push the button. But you can bet that the Tesco they build it its place will be no prettier. Gateshead town planners present and past have a lot to answer for.
