St. Andrews Church

  • Description

This place is special to both me and my mam because our family has been going to it for generations. My great grandparents and grandparents were married there. When it was renovated, the builders found a time capsule that had been there since it was built in 1904. Not only did I get to see the contents of the old time capsule but got to put something in the new one which is there now for future generations to find. My Grandpa published a book about the church covering 100 years of the church’s history. The book shows through photos the many different fashions, trips, events over the last 100 years. When my mam was young, the church was called Benton Methodist Church (it was before the latest renovations) and it had a badminton court and a stage in the church hall. The church had wooden pews and a large traditional wooden pulpit. These have now been replaced with chairs and a lecturn to give a modern look.
