The Derby - Sweep Procession In Ireland (1938)

  • Description

Titles read: "THE DERBY - SWEEP PROCESSION IN IRELAND". Dublin, Eire (Southern Ireland, Republic of Ireland). Various shots of decorated floats in the carnival procession of the Derby Sweepstake. Most have a theme of 'castles in the air'. Girls in ornate soldier costumes carry the counterfoils to a huge 'castle', past a model of a bride and groom with the words 'Dreams Come True' over their heads. At the wishing well Lord Mayor of Dublin Alfie Burn shakes hands with the chief girl soldier. The counterfoils scooped into boxes by the girls and put in a huge mixing machine. A man sits in a chair beneath a cut-out of a huge fairy - no explanation as to who he is - maybe he picks out the winner. 90,000 historic films, all SEARCHABLE on YouTube at: http://www.youtube.com/britishpathe Join us on Facebook at: http://www.facebook.com/britishpathe Tweet us @britishpathe FILM ID:965.4
