Bowes Museum Sundial
-
Description
The sundial at Bowes Museum in Barnard Castle, dedicated to Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. “The steel sundial is in the form of a sphere mounted on a plinth of stone from Dunhouse Quarry, near Barnard Castle, which provided the stone for the museum building more than a century ago. It was made by David Harber, of Oxfordshire. An inscription on it includes the Latin phrase hora transit manet amicitia, which means the hour passeth, friendship endureth.” http://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/archive/2004/08/10/The+North+East+Archive/6981712.Sundial_will_honour_Queen_Mother_s_link_with_museum/" >www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/archive/2004/08/10/The+North+Ea... -
