Steetley - Hartlepool Magnesia Works, 1958

  • Description

We've had a delve into our extensive photographic archive and unearthed these gems of the Steetley Magnesium works in Hartlepool. Hartlepool Magnesia Works, 1958 - E6 Hydrotreater construction. As annualised tonnages increased it became necessary to pretreat the incoming seawater to remove small particulate impurities such as silica sand. This was achieved by filtering the water through a bed of magnesia slurry in tanks called hydrotreaters. E6 was built directly outside the seawater pumping control room (front building in picture).
