Beamish Fish and Chip shop Tiles

  • Description

Work is progressing very well at our soon to open (Summer 2011) Coal Fired Fish and Chip Shop. Here's a sneak peek at some of the interior tiling, some of you may remember the photos we posted up a year or so ago of the tiles before repair and re-fitting. These tiles were rescued in 1979 by Beamish from a Berwick wet fish shop. The story behind them is that they originally formed part of a sampler display for a tile company (hence the variety of subjects) at the International Fisheries Exhibition in 1883. They were purchased complete by the fish shop they originally ended up in and we're sure you'll agree they are rather impressive!
