    Depiction of the Great Fire of Gateshead and Newcastle Upon Tyne in October 1854, probably drawn a day or two after the conflagration. Published in the Illustrated London News of 14 October 1854. St Mary's church is visible on the crest of the Gateshead embankment with the devastated Hillgate district between it and the river, reduced to rubble and in flames.
