Great Fire of 1854

  • Description

Another drawing of the Great Fire of October 1854, first published in the Illustrated London News of 14 October 1854. This view is from the High Level Bridge looking east towards the old Tyne Bridge, crowded with onlookers. Behind is the Newcastle Upon Tyne quayside (on the left) with the Gateshead quay and warehouses of Hillgate completely engulfed by the inferno (on the right).
