My Grandfather Jimmy in 1942/3 Egypt.

  • Description

Today The 9th of September is The 70th Anniversary of the allied invasion of Italy in 1943 opening The Italian Front at Salerno. My Grandfather Jimmy Kiervan, had been in the Army from 1940 and fought in North Africa. After the victory over the Africa Corps He later went on to The Invasion of Sicily and Italy in 1943. He went all the way to Germany without a scratch. He was one of the lucky one's to come home in 1946 . After The War he returned to his Job in The Borough Surveyor's Department of Tynemouth Borough Council. He was an amiture footballer in his spare time and in 1947 was invited to play for Liverpool Football Club. As a lot of the players had either joined the army or had been drafted, a good many didn't return from The War. Grandad as I said he was one of the lucky one's. I have posted his campaign medals , his letter from Liverpool Football Club and other photos to show his part in History. Thanks Granda!
