Fashion Goes To The Head (1935)
-
Description
Titles read: 'NOW THE Special Pathe Pictorial Section for the Ladies - Fashion Goes To The Head'. Probably filmed in Pathe Studio, London. Several shots of women modelling the latest hats by famous milliner Aage Thaarup who says the latest fashions are being influenced by the political situation. There follows a veritable feast for hat-lovers! The first is in black with a rather tall crown, front peak and two tassels on the top. Next is another black hat - a sort of stiffened military beret with cord around it, similar to an Italian soldier's flat cap, says commentator. Next a cap with a high back peak in African leather and the rest in black felt. Then we see "a beautifully designed feminine version of the Fascist cap, which Mussolini is so fond of wearing"! It is made of felt and has a fringe at the high front. The next is a cap made from an Abyssinian rug, trimmed with leather and with little bells on the top. A fabulous hat is apparently described by Thaarup as "the fashionable line for the coming season" with a stand up and angled brim and high crown. A suede hat something like a forage cap is trimmed with chromium stars. The next is an amazing gold "modern Roman helmet" - actually shaped more like a seashell or Mr Whippy ice-cream - with a paradise feather adorning the tip. Cataloguer's note: this is brilliant - you must see this film!
