'Benton' Loco - Stanley Pit Disaster

    "Benton" loco and miners beside it. The photograph bears the caption "Stanley Pit disaster", Benton", but it is possible that, apart from being photographed at the same time, the loco hasn't anything to do with the disaster. 0-4-0 Barclay saddle tank. Two of the men are holding shunting poles. The West Stanley pit disaster was caused by an explosion and claimed the lives of 168 men and boys.
