    Type : Photograph Medium : Print-black-and-white Description : A view of St. Mary's R.C. Cathedral Clayton Street Newcastle upon Tyne taken in 1977. The photograph shows the predella (ledge or shelf of an altar) and the reredos (structure behind and above the altar) which were formerly the high altar. The front of the altar and the reredos which are both made of Caen stone are decorated with religious scenes. In the background the Great East window illustrates the 'Tree of Jesse'.Designed by Pugin and opened in 1844.
