    Type : Reprographic copy Description : A photocopy of a 1970 photograph of the entrance to the Classic cinema on the Haymarket Newcastle upon Tyne. The main entrance was on Northumberland Street. The Canton Chinese Restaurant and Maynards sweet shop form part of the cinema complex. Levey's wallpaper shop is to the right of the Classic and a snack bar is to the left with other shops beyond. The street is busy with pedestrians. St Thomas Church can be seen in the background. The Classic cinema opened as the Tatler in 1937. It was known as the Tatler until 1969 when it became the Classic.
