The work is being carried out on both sides of the River Tyne. Buildings in Gateshead can be seen in the distance.The Queen Elizabeth 11 Bridge carries the Metro Rapid Transit System. Work began on it in1976 and was completed August 1978. The bridge was opened on 6th November 1981 by Queen Elizabeth 11. The bridge was designed by WA Fairhurst
