    Type : Photograph Medium : Print-black-and-white Description : A view of the Haymarket Newcastle upon Tyne taken in 1975. The photograph has been taken from Barras Bridge looking south towards the South African War Memorial. The angel has been temporarily removed from the top of the War Memorial. Construction work is taking place for the new metro station at the Haymarket behind the War Memorial. Buildings on Percy Street which include the ABC cinema and the Haymarket Hotel can be seen to the right.The South African War Memorial was erected in 1907. The ABC cinema opened in 1933 and was demolished in 1985. The Haymarket Hotel was demolished in 1987.
