    Type : Photograph Medium. In Newcastle/Theatres/Gaumont: A 1932 photograph of the New Westgate cinema on the corner of Westgate Road and Clayton Street, Newcastle upon Tyne. The cinema is showing the film 'Hotel Continental' starring Peggy Shannon. As an advertising stunt for their next film there are two radio masts on the roof with the words 'Next Week' and 'Are You Listening' suspended from them and hanging down in front of the cinema. Local Studies Source of Information : The 'New Westgate' (1927-1937) was originally known as 'The Picture House' (1912-1914) then the 'Westgate Road Picture House' (1914-1927). It's name was later changed to the 'Westgate' (1937-1950) then the 'Gaumont' (1950-1958).
