Statue of Emily Wilding Davidson

    The statue in Carlisle Park in Morpeth of the famous suffragette who died at the Epsom Derby in 1913 allegedly while trying to put a flag on the king 's horse. Her parents came from Morpeth although she herself only lived here for a short time. She is buried here at St Mary's Church just down the road. The statue was commissioned by Northumberland County Council from Durham sculptor Ray Lonsdale and unveiled on 11th Sept 2018, 100 years after the granting of votes to women.
