    Earthwork remains of a medieval moat with an external bank. This may have preceded the pele and house at Whitehall to the north (NY 24 SW 2). More information : (Centred NY 20254129) Moat (NR) (1) On the east side of the Wigton-Cockermouth road, almost opposite to the lodge of Whitehall, is an artificially raised area some 70 ft square, surrounded by a deep moat, 44-50 ft wide. The upcast from the moat has been thrown out on both sides, thus increasing the height of the plateau, and forming an external rampart - the eastern side of which has been levelled by ploughing.....
