    ....Land at Muncaster was granted to Alan de Penitone of Pennington, Lancashire in 1208. The family moved to the area c 1240. With the exception of a break after the death of the first Lord Muncaster and acquisition by the Ramsden family in the early C20, the Castle and park have been in the ownership of the Pennington family since that time. The Castle remains (1997) in use as a private residence....
