Old lead-smelting flue

  • Description

"Towards the top end of a flue which ran for over a kilometre from the Langley lead smelting works by the A686 up to the Stublick chimney. The works opened in 1767, the flue was constructed in 1802 and extended up to the chimney which still stands in 1859. By this time, the lead smelting industry in the North Pennines was in terminal decline and the works closed in 1887." Photo by Oliver Dixon, 2021.
