Wall Mile 21

  • Description

View of Halton Chesters fort from the approximate position of Milecastle 22 (Portgate or Errington Arms), on the line of the curtain wall, just east of the Dere Street. Taken on the original line of the Military Road (before the approach roads to the junction were altered when the present roundabout was constructed). The Vallum is visible on the horizon passing over Down Hill, left of centre. Looking E Handbook p.184.
