Wall Mile 71

  • Description

Even the most loved of monuments can be in need of a little TLC occasionally. Various writers describe and illustrate pitched core material from the curtain wall on the west side of the country and here is a fragment, exposed by erosion, not far from Wormanby Farm (between MC71 and T71A). The hedgeline (a series of old, gnarled hawthorn trees) is much loved by sheep for the shelter it affords, but it appears there is a price to pay, as ever. The Trail passes by and only briefly crosses the line of the Wall so is innocent of this damage. Looking SW Handbook p.349
