Mill Race

  • Description

...No, not the tranquil, watery kind... More the desolate, abandoned kind. Foreground: Disused Roosecote Raceway / Salthouse Race Track, where I used to go to the stockcar racing and get covered in pore-choking fine dust and dirt. Probably not the healthy kind either. Background: Salthouse Mills. ...I know I should stay away from you, but I can't. You're no good, but I'm still drawn to you and I keep coming back. Maybe one day you will have changed, maybe secretly I'm hoping not... Sorry, back to the facts... A disused former paper mill, originally a Victorian red-bricked building, some of which survives. It was later used by various local businesses and auto-repair services and is marked on current maps as Salthouse Mills Business Park. The site has been the subject of numerous arson attacks and vandalism and stands in a state of dangerous disrepair. Plans have been laid out for development of the site into waterfront housing and appartments. Time will tell.
