Dry dock and The Dock Museum, Barrow-in-Furness

  • Description

"The Museum is in the triangular building that is built over part of the former dry dock. A caisson keeps the dry dock in the museum dry. The remainder of the dock is between the photographer and the museum and is accessed by a sliding gate. This latter looks to be still operational but I do not know if vessels ever enter the dock now or if it can be drained. Beyond the museum is the vast bulk of BAE Systems' Devonshire Dock Hall where the UK's submarines are assembled." Photo by Chris Allen, 2018.
