    Chronicle Live, 27 Feb 2013. "THE Salvation Army City Temple makes its final bow this weekend as it closes its doors for the last time after nearly 120 years of serving those in need. In its heyday the purpose-built temple was frequently packed to the rafters during services and besides being a base for the Salvation Army’s efforts in the West End of Newcastle....It was where Geoff Platt MBE arrived in Newcastle in 1954, as Youth Officer. Geoff met a young lady called Ruth, who had been at the temple since 1950...."
