    The original Brandling Junction station building is a remarkable survivor in what was north-eastern County Durham, an area where almost every Victorian station building has been swept away. The diminutive single-storey structure has twin roofs with a valley gutter. It is built of rubble stone with an ashlar platform façade in a Tudor-Gothic style. An off-centre gable which projects towards the platform has three enormously tall lancet windows almost filling it. On the gable is a coat of arms bearing the initials ‘BR’ (Brandling Railway – not British Railways!)......
