Marine Memorial near Outer Golden Pot
-
Description
"Part of the Otterburn Ranges http://www.otterburnranges.co.uk/ . This memorial to three Marines - Glenn Miller, Anthony Helstrip and Peter Butchers, killed on 18 March 1982, is a grim reminder of the dangers of live firing practice. Seen from the so-called Camel's Path (no doubt a corruption of Kemyls Peth), an ancient road which coincides approximately with the Roman Dere Street. The Outer Golden Pot nearby is the socket of a medieval cross http://www.keystothepast.info/durhamcc/K2P.nsf/K2PDetail?readform&PRN=N127" Photo by Oliver Dixon, 2008. -
