    "Carved stone post by the A68, in parish of Rochester (Tynedale District), Byrness, opposite Otterburn Green, on grass verge, on North-east side of road. Newcastle quadrant stone, erected by the Elsdon & Reedwater Turnpike Trust in the 19th century. Inscription reads:- : Newcastle / 40 / Miles : : Jedbro / 16 / Miles : Grade II listed.
